Cape Canaveral Air Force Station Launch Complex 4 (LC-4) on entinen kahdesta alustasta koostuva rakettien laukaisukompleksi Cape Canaveralin lentotukikohdassa Floridassa. Kompleksin alustoja käytettiin muun muassa RV-A-10 -koerakettien, BOMARC -ohjusten, Redstone-rakettien sekä Snark- ja Matador-ohjusten laukaisuihin vuosina 1952-1960.[1]



Historia |


LC-4 -laukaisualustan rakennustyöt käynnistyivät syyskuussa 1950 U.S. Army Corps of Engineersin valittua hankkeen urakoitsijat. Yhdysvaltain ilmavoimat hyväksyi alustan 1952. Alustalle alettiin seuraavan vuoden elokuussa rakentaa ohjusten laukaisutornia (engl. Missile Service Stand, MSS) Redstone-laukaisuja varten. Laukaisutorni siirrettiin kolme vuotta myöhemmin LC-6:een.[2]
Kompleksin toinen, BOMARC-ohjusten laukaisuun tarkoitettu alusta rakennettiin vuosina 1955–1958. Alusta sai nimen Launch Complex 4A, ja sen rakenteisiin kuului avattavakattoinen rakennus, jonka sisältä Bomarc-ohjus voitaisiin nostaa laukaistavaksi. Rakennus siirtyi muutamaksi vuosikymmeneksi NASAn Delta-ohjelman käyttöön, mutta palautui ilmavoimille vuonna 1976. Alustat 4 ja 4A olivat ilman käyttöä vuosina 1960–1983, mutta kompleksi otettiin uudelleen käyttöön Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) -ohjelmaa varten. Ohjelma jatkui vuoteen 1989, jonka jälkeen alustat jäivät jäälleen ilman käyttöä.[2]
