John Arthur Casken (s. 15. heinäkuuta 1949 Barnsley, Yorkshire, Englanti) on brittiläinen säveltäjä.[1] Hänen tuotantoonsa kuuluu ooppera Golem (1986/1988; kantaesitys Lontoossa 28. kesäkuuta 1989).[2]


Casken opiskeli Birminghamin yliopistossa ja sai Puolan hallituksen stipendin, jonka turvin hän opiskeli Varsovassa vuonna 1971 opettajanaan Andrzej Dobrowolski. Näihin aikoihin sai alkunsa Caskenin pitkäaikainen yhteys Witold Lutosławskiin ja hänen musiikkiinsa. Casken luennoi Birminghamin ja Durhamin yliopistoissa ennen pääsyään Manchesterin yliopiston musiikin professoriksi vuonna 1992.[3]


Caskenin varhaisessa tuotannossa on kuultavissa ajan puolalaissäveltäjien vaikutus. Jo 1970-luvulla hän kuitenkin kehitti yksilöllisemmän tyylinsä, joka edustaa joustavasti sarjallisuutta. Esimerkkinä tästä uudesta tyylistä on teos Music for the Crabbing Sun (1974).[1]
